Why do the US and Canada share +1?+
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) was established in 1947 and covers the US, Canada and 20+ Caribbean territories under the same +1 country code, differentiated by area codes.
How do I dial internationally?+
Dial: your exit code (e.g. 00 or + on a mobile) + country dialling code + local number without the leading 0.
Can multiple countries share a dial code?+
Yes. +1 covers the US, Canada and many Caribbean islands. +7 covers Russia and Kazakhstan.
Why do some countries share a dial code?+
Small territories sometimes share the governing country's code. Puerto Rico (+1) uses the same code as the US, for example.
What is the difference between a dial code and a calling code?+
They refer to the same thing: the international prefix before a local number. Also called country code or IDD (International Direct Dialling) code.
