About this tool

Add or remove GST. Shows CGST + SGST split instantly.

The GST Calculator adds or removes India's Goods and Services Tax from any amount and shows the automatic CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) breakdown — each equal to half the total GST rate. India's four standard GST slabs are 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Enter any base amount and the tool instantly shows the GST, total price and component split. It also works in reverse: enter a GST-inclusive price to extract the base amount. All computation runs entirely in your browser.

Example

₹1,000 + 18% GST → Total: ₹1,180 · CGST: ₹90 · SGST: ₹90

Frequently Asked Questions
What is GST?+
India's Goods and Services Tax replaced multiple indirect taxes (VAT, Service Tax, Excise) in July 2017. It has four standard rates: 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, plus exempt and zero-rated categories.
What is CGST and SGST?+
For intra-state transactions, GST is split equally between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). An 18% GST transaction shows CGST = 9% and SGST = 9% — both paid on the same invoice.
What is IGST?+
Integrated GST applies to inter-state transactions and imports. It equals the combined CGST + SGST rate and is collected entirely by the central government before being shared with the destination state.
How do I reverse-calculate GST from a total?+
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). E.g. ₹1,180 at 18% GST → base = 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000. The GST component is ₹180.
What is the difference between CGST and SGST?+
CGST is collected by the central government; SGST by the state government. Together they equal the total GST rate. For inter-state transactions, IGST applies instead.
Which GST rate applies to my product?+
India has five GST slabs: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%. Check the HSN code of your product to find the correct slab.
